When deciding what vine to plant for the Bianco della Fattoria white wine there was no doubt: Vermentino. The rocky, granite nature of the land and the warm and dry climate that links Elba with many other Mediterranean regions where this grape serves with distinction ( Northern Sardinia, Corsica, Provence ) justify this choice, even though it was considered simply complementary grape in the past. The origin of the grapes is exclusively from Elba even though they are not yet eligible for the DOC denomination (the rules are currently being changed). The white wine of the Ripalte estates is a determined wine but without roughness and delicious to the taste. It has a wide range of combinations but is particular ideal for the rustic cooking of the islands. The wine is a pleasant straw-coloured yellow with a hint of golden in the glass; white and citrus fruits are clearly evident to the nose; the taste is well-balanced and persistent with the perception of bitter almonds at the end. The vines are grown overlooking the sea often on terraces at an average height of 180 m.; density is 5,600 plants per hectare and the production, again per hectare is around 6 tonnes of grapes.
